Converting standard emission readings taken during low accel, hi accel, cruise and decel modes allows you to determine if a vehicle meets applicable state emission standards in grams per mile. The conversion factors used in this software take into account vehicle weight (lbs.), engine displacement (cubic inches) and idle speed to estimate grams per mile readings that would otherwise require a "constant volume sampler& #34; exhaust analyzer. This is not a simple conversion process because a vehicle's weight and eng ine displacement both influence the volume of exhaust in the tailpipe. So you can't simply multiply standard ppm and percentage readings by some number to get the grams per mile equivalent.
